The Misguided Practice and Rational Return of Meritocracy in the Field of Higher Education:A Perspective from Marx's"Two Criteria"

任何成功的实践都是真理尺度和价值尺度的统一,高等教育场域中优绩主义的实践效能系于其尺度运用的正当性边界.当前,优绩主义实践僭越真理尺度和价值尺度而引发时下之弊:精英选拔机制偏离育人本质,个体发展陷入工具理性,引发象征性暴力与社会原子化危机.究其本质,高等教育系统的评价制度将多维度的教育价值压缩为单一绩效指标,技术治理为量化崇拜披上了科学外衣,身处其中的教育主体通过策略性迎合以获得意义存续,固化了狭隘的"优绩"符号.如要打破这一循环,则有赖于高等教育评价体系推行分类评价与增值评估;增强技术治理的透明性、可见性与多元性,捍卫人在技术治理中的核心地位;引导内部主体解构狭隘的成功观,从符号化存在转向意义性存在.

Effective practice must satisfy both the criterion of truth and the criterion of value.The practical effectiveness of meritocracy in higher education depends on the legitimacy of its application of these criteria.Current meritocratic practices in higher education overstep both criteria,leading to significant issues:elite selection mechanisms deviate from the essence of education,individual development is reduced to instrumental rationality,and symbolic violence and social atomization crises emerge.Essentially,evaluation systems reduce multifaceted educational values to narrow performance metrics.Technocratic governance lends a scientific veneer to this quantification obsession,and educational actors strategic compliance to sustain their sense of meaning reinforces a narrow symbol of"merit".Breaking this cycle requires reconstructing the higher education evaluation system by implementing classified evaluation and value-added assessment;enhancing the transparency,visibility,and diversity of technological governance to safeguard the central role of humans within it;and guiding internal actors to deconstruct narrow notions of success,shifting from symbolic existence to meaningful being.
