Objective To compare the associations of life's essential 8(LE8)and life's crucial 9(LC9)scores with the risk of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease(MASLD),and to evaluate the additional value of the psychological health component.Methods A total of 6970 participants were included.Multivariable Logistic regression and restricted cubic spline(RCS)analyses were used to assess the associations of the two scores with MASLD,fatty liver subtypes,and severity,followed by subgroup analyses and interaction tests.Results The prevalence of MASLD was 29.2%.After full adjustment,each 1-point increase in the LE8 and LC9 scores was associated with 6.4%and 6.3%lower odds of MASLD,respectively(P<0.001),and both scores showed nonlinear inverse associations with MASLD.Both scores were inversely associated with fatty liver severity but were not significantly associated with other fatty liver subtypes.The association of LE8 with MASLD was modified by age,gender,marital status,education,and occupation,whereas that of LC9 with MASLD was modified by age and education.Conclusion LE8 and LC9 scores showed similar strengths of association with MASLD.The addition of a psychological health component to LC9 did not result in a stronger association than that observed for LE8.LC9 may be more suitable for studies focusing on the relationship between psychological and metabolic health.
