女性劳动价值与中国农村婚姻支付OACHSSCD
Female labor value and marriage payments in rural China:discussion on heterogeneous influence of economic development on rural culture and customs
利用江苏、四川、吉林三省关于村庄经济社会发展情况的四期跟踪调研数据,从理论和实证两方面分析城市化背景下女性劳动价值对农村彩礼的影响.结果表明,女性劳动价值提升是农村彩礼上涨的重要拉动力之一,农村彩礼上涨虽然值得关注,但其经济社会发展基础也表明了合理性.一方面,城市化背景下适婚年龄女性外出就业比例增加,女性变得经济独立;另一方面,农业生产外包服务的发展改变了留在农村从事农业女性的家庭劳动分工参与程度,提升其农业劳动生产率.两方面作用导致女性劳动价值提升,推动农村彩礼上涨.具体而言,女性非农劳动参与对最少彩礼水平和一般彩礼水平增加的贡献率分别为17.1%和19.4%,女性农业生产率对最少彩礼水平和一般彩礼水平增加的贡献率均为5.3%,且这种影响在宗族文化较强地区表现更为明显.相关结论在深化婚姻市场理论建构、揭示市场经济发展对农村文化习俗异质影响的同时,也基于彩礼上涨具有合理性的客观事实,为因地制宜引导彩礼提供了现实依据.
Based on data collected from four rounds of longitudinal surveys on the socioeconomic development of villages in Jiangsu,Sichuan,and Jilin provinces,this study conducts an in-depth analysis,from both theoretical and empirical perspectives,of how female labor value influences rural bride price in the context of urbanization.The results show that the rise of female labor value is one of the important forces driving the rise of rural bride price.Although such rise is worthy of attention,its economic and social development foundation also underpins its rationality.On the one hand,in the context of urbanization,the proportion of female at marriage age who seek employment has increased,and female have become economically independent.On the other hand,the development of agricultural production outsourcing services has changed the degree of participation in the division of labor in the family of females who stay in rural areas and are engaged in agriculture,and thus improved their agricultural labor productivity.Two aspects have contributed to the improvement of female labor value and then pushed up bride price in rural areas.Specifically,female labor force participation outside the agricultural sector has contributed 17.1%and 19.4%to the increase in the minimum and average bride price levels,respectively,while female agricultural productivity has contributed 5.3%to the increase in both the minimum and average bride price levels,which is more obvious in areas with strong clan culture.The conclusion is of great significance for the construction of marriage market theory and thinking about the heterogeneous impact of market economy development on rural cultural customs.While these findings contribute to the theoretical development of the marriage market and shed light on the heterogeneous impact of market-driven economic development on rural cultural customs,they also provide a practical basis for guiding bride price in a manner tailored to local conditions,grounded in the objective reality that the rise in bride price is justified.
