Teacher's ethos(shifeng)is a signature concept in Chinese autonomous knowledge system of teacher's ethics.Drawing on the semantic origins of feng in the indigenous Chinese cultural context and its modern conceptual genealogy,teacher's ethos can be defined as a professional ethical ethos in which individual teachers and teacher communities,guided by teacher's ethics as their underlying value foundation,transform internal moral dispositions into relatively stable practical habits through educational and instructional practice.Through their continuous enactment and dissemination,these habits in turn cultivate teacher's ethics and exert demonstrative and educative influence on the broader social climate.The modern attributes of teacher's ethos are primarily manifested in value orientation,ethical exemplarity,affective-communicative gen-erativity,and community development.Teacher's ethics and teacher's ethos are mutually constituted through their ethical foundations,perceptible forms,reciprocal transformation within teacher communities,and governance practices.Teacher's ethics provides the value basis for teacher's ethos,while teacher's ethos gives teacher's ethics concrete practical expres-sion.Teacher communities facilitate the reciprocal transformation between moral virtue and ethical ethos,while political guidance,moral cultivation,and legal safeguards jointly promote their coordinated development.This mutually constitutive relationship provides the logical foundation for the integrated development of teacher's ethics and teacher's ethos.
