To investigate the effects of Phellodendron bark extract(PBE)on growth performance,immunity,and hepatic lipid metabolism in piglets.480 21 d piglets(7.94±0.13 kg,D×L×Y)were randomly divided into 4 groups,with 8 replicates per group and 15 piglets per replicate.The piglets were fed experimental diets(1~19 d and 20~35 d)supplemented with 0,35,70,and 140 mg/kg PBE,respectively.The trial included a 3-day pre-trial and a 35-day main trial.Results:Compared to the 0 mg/kg PBE group,the 140 mg/kg PBE group exhibited 4.47%increase in FBW(P<0.05)and 18.16%decrease in diarrhea rate(P<0.05).The 70 and 140 mg/kg PBE groups showed 7.05%and 8.36%increases in ADG,respectively,and 5.26%and 5.63%decreases in F/G,respectively.The spleen index of the 140 mg/kg PBE group was significantly increased(P<0.05).The content of IgA in the 140 mg/kg PBE group was significantly increased(P<0.05),The contents of IgG and IL-10 in 70 and 140 mg/kg PBE groups were significantly increased(P<0.05),The contents of IL-1β and TNF-α were significantly decreased(P<0.05).The liver TG and T-VFA contents in 70 and 140 mg/kg PBE groups were significantly decreased(P<0.05).The FASN mRNA level was significantly decreased in the 70 and 140 mg/kg PBE groups(P<0.05),and the SREBP-1c mRNA level was significantly decreased in the 35-140 mg/kg PBE groups(P<0.05).The PPARα mRNA level was significantly increased in the 70 mg/kg PBE group,and the FABP mRNA levels were significantly increased in the 70 and 140 mg/kg PBE groups(P<0.05).Phellodendron Bark extract has the potential to improve lipid metabolism,enhance immunity,and promote weight gain in piglets.Under the conditions of this trial,an additional level of 140 mg/kg is recommended.
