Environmental changes in the mud area of the inner shelf of the East China Sea since MIS 5:Evidence from biomarkers

甘油二烷基甘油四醚(GDGTs)作为一类新兴生物标志物,因其在指示有机质来源、重建地质时期海表温度及反映物源输入对环境变化的响应方面具有显著优势,已被广泛运用于边缘海沉积记录与环境演变的研究中.东海内陆架泥质区高沉积速率限制了对环境变化敏感的泥质沉积记录长时间尺度的研究.本文以东海内陆架泥质区南端的 ECS1601 钻孔为研究对象,综合岩性特征、地层年代学、粒度参数及 GDGTs 相关指标,探讨了 MIS5 以来该泥质区沉积环境的演变过程.结果表明,自 MIS5 期以来研究区陆源与海源有机质来源占比受海平面变化控制,高海平面时海源有机质占比增加,研究区有机质物质来源同时还受东亚季风驱动的水动力和流域环境变化的共同影响;MIS4 期平均海表温度在 16.38~26.66℃之间波动,受多端元共同作用影响,其变化幅度较大,而其余阶段变化相对平缓.本研究揭示了东海内陆架泥质区在长时间尺度(MIS5 以来)下有机质组成与沉积环境之间的响应关系,为认识该区域地质历史及全球环境变化提供了重要依据,并为相关的全球对比研究提供了新的数据支撑.

Glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers(GDGTs),an emerging class of biomarkers,have been widely applied in studies of marginal sea sedimentary records and environmental evolution due to their significant advantages in indicating the sources of organic matter,reconstructing sea surface temperature(SST)during geological periods,and reflecting environmental responses to variations in material input.However,the relatively high sedimentation rates in the mud area of the inner shelf of the East China Sea limit long-term investigations of environmentally sensitive muddy sedimentary records.In this study,the ECS1601 core,located at the southern end of the mud area on the inner shelf of the East China Sea,was selected as the research object.By integrating lithological characteristics,stratigraphic chronology,grain-size parameters,and GDGT-related indices,the evolution of the sedimentary environment in this muddy area since Marine Isotope Stage 5(MIS 5)was investigated.Results show that since MIS 5,the relative contributions of terrestrial and marine organic matter in the study area have been mainly controlled by sea-level fluctuations.During periods of high sea level,the proportion of marine-derived organic matter increased.Meanwhile,the sources of organic matter were also jointly influenced by hydrodynamic conditions driven by the East Asian monsoon and environmental changes within the drainage basin.During the MIS 4,the mean SST fluctuated from 16.38 to 26.66 ℃,and the SST exhibited relatively large variability influenced by multiple end-member sources,whereas the SST fluctuations in other stages were comparatively moderate.Meanwhile,the relationship between organic matter composition and the sedimentary environment in the mud area over a long-term timescale(since MIS 5)was also revealed.Our findings provided important evidence for understanding the geological history of the region and global environmental change,and contributed new data to related global comparative studies.
