Tracing the origin environment,formation process,breeding goal and genetic structure of Taihang Yunniu,we strive to accurately restore the historical state,so as to sum up experience and learn lessons and promote the rapid development of beef cattle seed industry in China.Taihang Yunniu is bred in the middle part of Taihang Mountain with superior ecological environment and abundant forage resources.With the de-velopment of social productive forces and the change of market demand,the breeding target has expe-rienced a historical change from dual-purpose meat,dual-purpose milk and meat to specialized meat.Bree-ding production has gone through many stages,such as cattle improvement,hybrid innovation,progressive improvement,cross-fixation and subculture.Taihang Yunniu is a synthetic breed with multiple blood lines,and its pedigree composition is mainly Simmental,accoun-ting for 86％,and it also contains 4％of Hereford cattle,about 10％of local cattle and Jinnan cattle,which is relatively unique.Combined with the meat target,the ancestral bull chose Canadian Simmental cattle.Eight families were formed in the subcul-ture breeding,which effectively controlled the inbreeding coefficient of the population and completed the subculture breeding and breeding improvement of four generations.At present,a new group of Taihang Yunniu has been formed with relatively consistent body shape and appearance,clear pedigree,stable heredi-ty,rough feeding tolerance,rapid growth and high production performance.
