This paper introduces the basic concepts of astronomy and calendar,and expounds on the content of'observing phenomena and determining time'in the yun qi theory.It is believed that the yun qi theory conforms to the basic concepts of the calendar and contains the basic functions of the calendar.The yun qi theory not only contains a basic understanding of the structure of the universe,but also contains a discussion of the laws of the movement of the sun,moon and five planets.The understanding of the year,month,day and time in the yun qi theory is basically consistent with the understanding of the traditional four-quarter calendar.Its uniqueness lies in the observation and prediction of climate,phenology and disease symptoms.Its function is to guide people to be healthy and avoid diseases,which embodies the philosophical view of the correspondence between nature and man in the yun qi theory.It is very likely that the yun qi theory is essentially an ancient astronomical calendar.
