Based on clinical practice,Professor ZHANG Zongli proposes the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)diagnostic and therapeutic approach of"treating the kidney from the spleen."By tracing the origin of the disease,analyzing the relationship between the spleen and kidney,and investigating the etiology and patho-genesis,he focuses on the core pathological mechanism of spleen deficiency with dampness encumbrance in pe-diatric nephrotic syndrome.Treating from the spleen,he employs syndrome differentiation-based therapies in-cluding awakening the spleen to resolve dampness and eliminate turbidity,activating the spleen to relieve stag-nation and raise the clear,fortifying the spleen to move qi and promote diuresis,and strengthening the spleen to boost qi and consolidate the defensive qi.In terms of medication,he skillfully uses light,clear,and aro-matic herbs to raise the clear and descend the turbid,thereby unblocking the pivotal mechanism of the spleen and regulating the dynamic balance between the spleen and kidney.The article also elaborates on the modified characteristics of his prescriptions,including clearing and dispersing the exterior,regulating and moving qi,invigorating and nourishing blood,and benefiting the kidney to consolidate the root.One proven case is at-tached for the benefit of colleagues.
