Bravery and timidity are a pair of opposing personality traits and psychological states.Inner Canon of Huangdi proposes that human bravery and timidity possess certain reference value in disease diagnosis and treatment.Bravery and timidity are manifestations of human physiology embodied in volitional behaviors.Meanwhile,they influence people's decision-making from psychological and social dimensions,and ultimately exert impacts on physical health.Clarifying the specific connotations of bravery and timidity in medical contexts,exploring their implications for traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)diagnosis,distinguishing and guiding patients with different bravery-timidity characteristics can offer innovative approaches for TCM disease diagnosis and intervention.Centered on the elaborations of the bravery-timidity concept recorded in Inner Canon of Huangdi,this paper explores its specific connotations,sorts out relevant physiological and pathological characteristics,and investigates its potential value in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses.
