The"non-action"view of the two Cheng scholars is an important part of their ideological sys-tem that cannot be bypassed,but it has never received sufficient attention from the academic circle.The"non-action"view of the two Chengs originated from the ontological thought of"still and motionless"in the"Yi Zhuan",which is distinct from Laozi's concept of"non-action"(wu wei),which implies both non-intervention and the ability to achieve everything.Moreover,in the process of constructing the"non-action"view,the two Chengs absorbed the thought of"governing things without hindrance"of the Huayan School.The"non-action"concept of the two Chengs was touched upon in their ideological fields such as the theory of practice,the theory of politics,and the theory of mind and nature.With non-action,non-desire,and non-selflessness as specific manifestations,it was indicated that"non-action"is an unavoidable key link in the ideological system of the two Chengs.Zhou Dunyi,Shao Yong,Zhang Zai and others who were contemporary with the two Chengs also frequently expounded the concept of"non-action"in their works and doctrines.It can be seen that"non-ac-tion"was a consensus among the Five Scholars of the Northern Song Dynasty.The"non-action"view of the two Chengs emerged along with the construction of their"sense of stillness"natural principle essence,and it is consistent from top to bottom.Therefore,exploring the"non-action"view of two Chengs is helpful for accurate-ly grasping its theoretical connotation in the overall ideological system of the two Chengs.
