"不要乱打菩萨":川陕苏区时期中共对民间信仰的政策调适与柔性引导OACHSSCD

During the period of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Area,when faced with the deep-root-ed local folk beliefs,the CPC's policy underwent a process of adjustment from radical"beating Bo-dhisattva"to the more moderate policy of"don't beat Bodhisattva indiscriminately."In the early stage,"beating Bodhisattva"was regarded as a necessary means to eradicate feudal superstition and awaken people's revolutionary consciousness.However,in practice,the neglect of the religious feel-ings and beliefs of the masses triggered public resistance and prompted the CPC to reflect on the lim-itations of such radical action.The CPC has also gradually realized that relying solely on administra-tive orders and forceful destruction cannot eradicate the belief foundation rooted in the people's sur-vival anxiety and spiritual comfort needs.Therefore,through policy adjustment,the CPC adopted the policy of"dont beat Bodhisattva indiscriminately,"allowing folk beliefs a certain degree of liv-ing space.However,this shift is not to give up the transformation of folk beliefs,but to advocate flexible ways such as education,science popularization and the improvement of medical conditions to guide the masses to voluntarily get rid of superstition and change their ways of thinking.This process shows that the revolutionary forces have to accept and adapt to the social reality at a specific histori-cal stage while trying to reshape the social culture,so as to seek the revolution's feasibility in the tension between ideals and reality.
