Colorectal cancer(CRC)is one of the most common malignant tumors worldwide,with its incidence and mortality rates continuing to rise.It has become a major disease seriously threatening human health.Although existing treatment methods,such as surgery,chemotherapy,radiotherapy,and targeted therapy can control tumor growth and spread,they still present significant challenges,including notable adverse effects,immunosuppression,reduced quality of life,and drug resistance.These limitations make it difficult to fully meet the actual needs of clinical treatment.With the deepening understanding of the mechanisms underlying tumor development and progression,an increasing number of novel therapeutic strategies are being explored.Among them,traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has gradually gained attention due to its multi-target,multi-pathway,and holistic regulatory characteristics.As an important component of Chinese civilization,TCM has achieved remarkable integration and development with modern medicine,demonstrating renewed vitality.In the field of oncology,the application of TCM is becoming increasingly widespread,especially in the treatment of colorectal cancer.Leveraging its multi-level mechanisms of action,TCM can effectively complement the shortcomings of modern medical approaches.In recent years,Leigongteng(Tripterygium Wilfordii),a traditional Chinese herb,has been widely used for immunomodulation and anti-tumor therapy.Studies have shown that Leigongteng(Tripterygium Wilfordii)and its active components possess significant anti-inflammatory,anti-tumor,and immunomodulatory effects,capable of inhibiting the initiation and progression of colorectal cancer through various mechanisms.The active ingredients of Leigongteng(Tripterygium Wilfordii)effectively curb the advancement of colorectal cancer by suppressing tumor cell migration and invasion,blocking epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT),and inducing tumor cell apoptosis and autophagy,among other pathways.Recent research further indicates that Leigongteng(Tripterygium Wilfordii)can modulate multiple signaling pathways,such as NF-κB,MAPK,PI3K/AKT,and AMPK thereby inhibiting tumor growth,metastasis,and drug resistance.This article systematically reviews the mechanisms of action of the active components of Leigongteng(Tripterygium Wilfordii)against colorectal cancer,aiming to provide new insights and strategies for its clinical application and promotion.
