Objective:To examine the associationsamong family functioning,family coping,and adaptation to be-reavement(i.e.,prolonged grief,depression,anxiety,and post-traumatic growth),and to investigate the mediating role of family coping between family functioning and adaptation to bereavement.Methods:The study adopted a cross-sectional survey to collect data from a total of 285 adult bereaved individuals,who were assessed using measures including the Family Functioning Scale and the Family Crisis-Oriented Personal Evaluation Scale.Results:①Family functioning was negatively correlated with prolonged grief symptoms,depressive symptoms,and anxiety symptoms(r=-0.29,-0.33,-0.35;P＜0.001),but was not correlated with post-traumatic growth;Family coping was nega-tively correlated with the above symptoms(r=-0.24,-0.32,-0.36;P＜0.001)and positively correlated with post-traumatic growth(r=0.34,P＜0.001).②Family coping partially mediated the relationship between family functio-ning and symptoms of depression and anxiety and the mediating effects were-0.03 and-0.04 respectively.Mean-while,the subdimensions of family coping played partial mediating roles between subdimensions of family functio-ning and prolonged grief symptoms,as well as subdimensions of post-traumatic growth.Conclusion:Family coping plays a mediating role between family functioning and adaptation to bereavement,and the level of family functioning can serve as a risk identification factor for bereaved individuals.
