YOU Yi,a physician of the Qing Dynasty,first established the"eight methods for stroke treatment",namely,opening orifices,consolidating collapse,expelling major pathogens,regulating qi movement,eliminating phlegm and retained fluids,clearing heat wind,unblocking orifices and pathways,and moxibustion at acupoints.Mr.HUANG Zhuzhai flexibly inherited and developed this therapeutic theory,integrating and refining the"eight methods for stroke treatment"into a more holistic and focused framework of the"four principles and eight methods"according to the different stages and conditions of stroke.This framework includes addressing both root and manifestations,with the methods of opening orifices and unblocking orifices and pathways focusing on treating the manifestations first;supporting the healthy qi and consolidating the root,with the methods of consolidating collapse and moxibustion at acupoints;expelling wind as a regular therapeutic principle,represented by the method of expelling major pathogens;adapting the methods of eliminating phlegm and clearing heat,represented by the methods of eliminating phlegm and retained fluids and clearing heat wind;and regulating qi as the key approach,represented by the method of regulating qi movement.
