Selecting and determining the design formula from calculation formulas according to design re-quirements is one of the basic tasks in the engineering field.To provide a basis for the selection of the pressure vessel static strength design formula,by applying methods of mathematical statistics and knowledge of probability theory,the reliability index indicating that the pressure vessel static strength is greater than the load is used as a basis for evaluating the formula reliability.When the static strength and the load of the pressure vessel follow the normal distribution respectively,based on the unbiased estimation of static intensity distribution parameters and the definite-value analysis of load distribution parameters,under the five conditions of the most stringent hy-draulic test,the most stringent pneumatic test or combined gas and liquid tests,conventional hydraulic tests,con-ventional pneumatic tests or combined gas and liquid tests,and normal operation,from the perspective of compa-ring the reliability index of the pressure vessel's static strength,a method is established to choose the pressure ves-sel static strength design formula.Two examples are used in the text to illustrate the simplicity of applying this method.
