The textile industry is an important part of China's foreign trade and a competitive sector for international cooperation and integrated development.In recent years,changes in the international economic situation,adjustments to the industrial structure,and geopolitics have slowed down the growth of China's textile and garment exports.Additionally,Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam are competing for market share,putting the textile industry at risk of"decoupling"and a"broken chain."Enhancing the efficiency of supply chain management and cutting down on logistics costs is crucial for boosting the textile industry's profitability and profit margin,enhancing its external competitiveness,and ensuring the robust and safe operation of the industry's supply chain.The China-Europe Railway Express has accelerated the pace of textile enterprises opening to the west,and its effect and mechanism on the supply chain efficiency of textile enterprises need to be empirically tested. This paper uses the listed companies in China's A-share textile industry from 2006 to 2023 as its research object.It views the opening of the China-Europe Railway Express as a quasi-natural experiment,constructs a supply chain efficiency index,and applies the multi-period differential method to empirically test the impact and mechanism of the China-Europe Railway Express on the supply chain efficiency of textile enterprises.It further conducts the heterogeneity analysis based on the four dimensions of listed enterprises,including their location in geographical,the outward-oriented development level of the textile industry,the link of the textile industry chain,and their life cycle.This approach aims to inspire improvements in the foreign trade competitiveness of textile enterprises,enhance their quality and efficiency,and ensure the safe and stable development of the textile supply chain.Firstly,this paper investigates how the China-Europe Railway Express influences the supply chain efficiency of textile enterprises,focusing on two factors:trade cost and the supply and demand bullwhip effect.Secondly,the multi-period difference-in-differences(DID)empirical method is used to supplement the gap of textile enterprise supply chain studies. The results demonstrate that the China-Europe Railway Express can significantly enhance the efficiency of textile enterprises'supply chains,primarily through the reduction of trade costs and the alleviation of the supply and demand bullwhip effect.Heterogeneity analysis shows that the opening of China-Europe railway trains has a more significant effect on the improvement of supply chain efficiency of textile enterprises located in the central and western region,port cities,and highly outward-oriented regions,as well as those in the middle and upper reaches,growth stages,and mature stages of the industrial chain.This paper's exploration of the effects and mechanisms through which the China-Europe Railway Express influences corporate supply chain efficiency can provide insights for textile companies aiming to enhance the quality and efficiency of their supply chain management and realize new industrialization and regional value co-creation opportunities.
