Suzhou medicine industry has had a long history and has always been prosperous.It is famous all over the world for Wu doctors.The government-run medical and pharmaceutical institutions have been established in the past dynasties,which have played positive roles in promoting the development of local medical and pharmaceutical industries.However,to date,there is still a lack of specialized and systematic research papers and books.According to historical records of various dynasties,record of laws and systems of dynasty,local chronicles of Suzhou,inscriptions on steles,epitaphs,collections of scholars,modem works on history of medicine,and other literature materials,the study conducts a detailed investigation and systematic review of the medical and pharmaceutical institutions at the state(prefecture,region)and county levels in the Suzhou area from the Tang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty,attempting to enrich the studies on history of medicine in Suzhou area.
