The debate of Zhang Zai's Ben Ti theory,such as the theory of"Qi Ben Theory"and"Xu Ben Theory"and other forms of contentioin,is its appearance,while the differences of thinking mode of cosmology and theory of substance and function are its essence.Two modes of thinking are confused with the translation of"Ontology".Only by clarifying the boundaries among the three thinking modes-Ontology,Cosmology,and Theo-ry of Function and Essence,can we achieve greater breakthroughs in the exploration of Zhang Zai's Ben Ti Tho-ery.The theory of Qi Ben based on cosmology and the theory of Xu Ben based on theory of substance and func-tion have their merits and problems to be clarified.Cosmology serves as the main framework for understanding Zhang Zai's Ben Ti Theory.Ontology can be found in Zhang Zai's thoughts but does not hold a fundamental po-sition.
