Analysis of Induced Radioactivity in Irradiated Compensators from Medical Heavy Ion Accelerators

为评估医用重离子均匀扫描模式下补偿器辐照后放射性水平及其处置方式,本研究通过源项分析、文献调研与理论计算,对其残余产物与活度进行了定量分析.结果表明,补偿器经临床典型疗程(碳离子能量120~400 MeV·u-1,总辐照时间1050s)辐照后,产生的残存放射性核素主要为11C和7Be.辐照结束时总活度为3.36×105Bq,其中11C贡献主导.暂存6.8小时后nC基本衰变殆尽,7Be的活度约为4.97×102Bq,远低于《电离辐射防护与辐射源安全基本标准》(GB 18871-2002)中规定的豁免活度限值(1×107Bq).因此,该类补偿器在上报监管部门认可后,可按一般废物进行处置,无需纳入放射性废物管理.

To evaluate the induced radioactivity level and disposal approach of compensators used in the uni-form scanning mode of medical heavy-ion therapy,this study conducted a quantitative analysis of activation products and their activities through source term analysis,literature review,and theoretical calculation.The results show that after a typical clinical treatment course(carbon ion energy 120~400 MeV·u-1,total irradia-tion time 1050 s),the main induced radionuclides in the compensator are 11C and 7Be.The total activity at the end of irradiation is about 3.36×105 Bq,dominated by 11C.After a cooling time of 6.8 hours,11C has almost completely decayed,and the activity of 7Be remains at approximately 4.97×102 Bq,which is far below the ex-emption limit(1×107 Bq)specified in the"Basic Standards for Protection against Ionizing Radiation and for the Safety of Radiation Sources"(GB 18871-2002).Therefore,with approval from the regulatory authority,such compensators can be disposed of as conventional waste without being managed as radioactive waste.
