Objective:To revise the Self-Absorption Scale(SAS)and examine validity and reliability of the Chinese version among college students.Methods:A total of 1 589 college students participated the study.Sample 1(n=753)was used for item analysis and exploratory factor analysis(EFA),sample 2(n=754)for confirmatory factor analysis(CFA),and sample 3(n=82)for test-retest reliability analysis.Combined samples 1 and 2(n=1 507)were used for criterion-related validity,internal consistency reliability analysis,and measurement invariance tests across genders.Criterion measures included Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale(RSES),Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale(CES-D),Social Avoidance and Distress Scale(SAD),and the Chinese Big Five Person-ality Inventory Brief Version(CBF-PI-B).Results:EFA extracted two factors(public self-absorption and private self-absorption),explaining 63.11%of the total variance.CFA indicated good model fit(CFI=0.95,TLI=0.95,SRMR=0.04,RMSEA=0.05,χ2/df=2.22,P＜0.001).SAS total and factor scores were positively correlated with the CES-D,SAD,and CBF-PI-B neuroticism scores(r=0.29-0.67,Ps＜0.001),and negatively correlated with RSES and CBF-PI-B extraversion scores(r=-0.43--0.07,Ps＜0.001).The Chinese version of SAS demonstrated a Cronbach's α coefficient of 0.95 and a test-retest reliability of 0.74 over a 2-month inter-val.Measurement invariance across genders was supported for configural,weak,strong,and strict invariance models(ΔCFI＜0.01,ΔTLI＜0.01).Conclusion:The Chinese version of the Self-Absorption Scale exhibits good psycho-metric properties and can serve as a valid tool for measuring self-absorption among college students in China.
