Patients with chronic kidney disease(CKD)have a significantly increased risk of cardiovascular events.The cardiovascular mortality rate in patients with end-stage renal disease(ESRD)is 3 to 5 times higher than that in individuals with normal renal function.Speckle tracking imaging(STI)can sensitively identify subclinical left atrial dysfunction by quantifying parameters such as left atrial reservoir strain and systolic strain.Abnormal changes detected by STI are significantly associated with the risk of cardiovascular events.As a non-invasive and reproducible method for cardiac function assessment,STI demonstrates important clinical application value in evaluating left atrial function in patients with uremia.This article will provide a comprehensive review focusing on the principles and methods of STI,the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying left atrial dysfunction in patients with uremia,and the clinical applications of STI in assessing left atrial function in these patients.
