The Hubei-Henan-Anhui Soviet Area,as one of the key birthplaces of the CPC's Red Army,gave birth to multiple main Red Army forces.The development of military designations under-went three distinct stages:at the initial phase of army-building,the CPC's military strategy primarily emphasized guerrilla warfare,and the military designations were determined by local provincial com-mittees,military commissions,and army party committees,adopting a"three-five"organizational structure.These designations were largely based on the Hubei Provincial Committee's unified division of insurrectionary zones,reflecting strong regional characteristics.Around 1930,influenced by both the domestic and international revolutionary situation and the"Li Lisan Line",the CPC adjusted its military strategy and implemented a standardized numbering system for the Red Army nationwide.The military structure shifted to a"three-three"system,better suited for mobile warfare.Following the failure of the Fourth Counter-Encirclement Campaign,the main force of the Fourth Front Red Army embarked on the Western Expedition.Due to the severe and complex situation of the struggle,the au-thority to assign military designations was once again decentralized to local entities.However,the des-ignations during this period exhibited the dual characteristics of"local self-reliance"and"following the central government in order".The evolution of military designations was closely tied to the shifting revolutionary dynamics and the CPC's strategic adjustments,which provides a new perspective for the academic community to re-examine the history of the Party and the revolution.
