Synthesis of hydrophilic magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers for selective recognition of laminarin in seaweedsOA

Background:Laminarin,aβ-1,3-glucan derived from brown algae,possesses various bioactive properties.However,its conventional purification process is laborious and technically challenging.This study aimed to develop a novel method for the rapid and selective extraction of laminarin from seaweeds using magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers(MIPs).Methods:The magnetic MIPs were synthesized in an aqueous medium via surface radical polymerization.The synthesis employed laminarin as the template molecule,water-soluble VBTAC(4-vinylbenzyltrimethylammonium chloride)as the functional monomer,and MBA(N,N’-methylenebisacrylamide)as the crosslinker.The adsorption behavior of the polymers was evaluated,and the data were fitted to kinetic and isotherm models.Results:The adsorption process of laminarin onto the MIPs was best described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Langmuir isotherm model.Under optimized conditions,the polymers achieved a maximum adsorption capacity of 204.08μg·mg^(-1) with an imprinting factor of 1.33.Conclusion:The synthesized magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers demonstrated the ability to selectively and efficiently adsorb laminarin in empirical trials,offering a promising alternative to conventional purification methods.
