Post-infectious cough refers to the cough that persists for 3 to 8 weeks even after the acute infection symptoms are resolved.Professor WANG Chengxiang proposes the core pathogenesis of"internal and external interaction,and mutual obstruction of wind and phlegm"This suggests that external contraction and pathogenic qi trigger latent wind and phlegm-fluid retention,resulting in a pathological state of mutual obstruction of wind and phlegm that is prolonged and hard to cure.Some patients may experience a transition from excess to deficiency,or from cold to heat,resulting in complex patterns of cold and heat,deficiency and excess.Therefore,treatment should follow the principles"for pathogenic phlegm-fluid retention,treat with warm medicines"and"disperse external wind,extinguish internal wind".The overall treatment strategy involves dispersing wind and pathogenetic factors,warming lung and resolving fluid retention,and relieving spasm and calming wind.Additionally,the strategies emphasize flexible syndrome differentiation and treatment.This paper systematically elucidates Prof WANG's academic experience in post-infection cough from four perspectives:theoretical origins,etiology and pathogenesis,integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine,and treatment strategies.
