南朝宋郊庙歌辞撰写机制考述OACHSSCD

As a national ritual,the suburban and temple sacrifices have always received attention from historians.Starting from the Wei and Jin dynasties,memorials submitted for routine ritual affairs evolved into ritual archives and documents,recording the operation process of ritual music in previous dynasties and the current dynasty.In the composition of suburban and temple hymns,the Shangshu Institution(the central administrative organ in ancient China)was responsible for the revision and approval of rituals,thus taking the primary responsibility for the compilation of these hymns.Meanwhile,the Taichang(the official in charge of state rituals,music,and sacrificial ceremonies)assisted the Shangshu Institution in formulating ritual regulations and restoring musical instruments,serving as a key supporting department in hymn composition.Based on the close cooperation between the Shangshu Institution and the Taichang,the ritual procedures for sacrifices and the names of the elegant music(used in state rituals)applicable to the current dynasty were formulated.Subsequently,the emperor,by issuing imperial edicts,designated attendant officials to compose the hymns,thereby completing the closed-loop process of hymn creation.This process not only reflects the administrative handling of government functional departments but also embodies the operational mechanism of the court's ritual music.It fully demonstrates the prescriptiveness and collectiveness in the creation of suburban and temple hymns.
