This article summarizes the clinical experience of National Chinese Medicine Master Professor Sun Shentian(hereinafter respectfully referred to as"Master Sun")in the treatment of cerebral infarction sequelae based on the theory of"benefiting Qi,dredging collaterals,and regulating the spirit to restore the body".Master Sun believes that the sequelae of cerebral infarction belong to the category of"diseases involving both the body and the spirit"and are mainly characterized by"disharmony between the body and the spirit".This disease is located in the brain and is caused by the stagnation of Qi and blood,with the basic pathogenesis of"Qi deficiency,collateral obstruction,and disharmony between the body and the spirit".Based on the theory of"benefiting Qi,dredging collaterals,and regulating the spirit to restore the body",Master Sun proposed the strategy of acupuncture-medicine therapy,in which scalp acupuncture is performed at the main points in the motor and sensory areas to regulate the central spirit,supplemented by acupuncture at Baihui point to regulate the spirit and awaken the brain,and modified Buyang Huanwu decoction is used for treatment,with the application of Astragalus membranaceus-Pheretima for benefiting Qi and dredging collaterals,in combination with Polygala tenuifolia and Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma for opening orifices and resolving stagnation.Master Sun flexibly modifies prescriptions according to accompanying symptoms,emphasizes the importance of various methods for regulating the spirit,and focuses on the crucial role of repetitive transcranial acupuncture stimulation.He has formed a comprehensive intervention system that takes benefiting Qi and dredging collaterals as the foundation,regulating the spirit and awakening the brain as the pivot,and restoring both the body and the spirit as the goal.This approach has achieved remarkable clinical efficacy and provides new ideas for the treatment of cerebral infarction sequelae.Two proven cases are attached as evidence.
