Advance in fruit cracking mechanisms and potential remedies
Fruit cracking is a relatively common physiological disorder which widely occurs among fruit crops. The occur-rence of this disorder can significantly reduce or even completely eliminate the commercial value of fruits, ultimately causing substantial economic losses to the industry.Fruit cracking,a quantitative trait controlled by multiple genes,is synergistically regulated by environmental and genetic factors. In recent years, with the in-depth research on the mechanisms underlying fruit cracking,a large number of genes involved in fruit cracking have been identified, most of which are related to the cuticle, cell wall, hormones, and other relevant metabolic processes.Meanwhile, significant progress has also been made in the measures to prevent and control fruit cracking.Drawing upon recent research achievements, this paper presents a systematic and compre-hensive review, focusing on hypotheses regarding fruit cracking, the structural attributes of fruit peel, the influence of environ-mental factors, molecular mechanisms regulating fruit cracking,as well as prevention and control strategies, with the aim of providing references for basic research and practical production in the future.
