This article tries to summarize Professor AI Rudi's clinical experience in the staged treatment of recurrent cheilitis based on the latent dryness theory.It is posited that latent dryness damaging yin constitutes the core pathogenesis of cheilitis,wherein spleen yin deficiency forms the foundation of the disease,external dryness acts as the initiating trigger,and the transformation into fire and genera-tion of wind leads to the progression and variation of the condition.The treatment is fundamentally based on nourishing yin and moisten-ing dryness,with therapy tailored according to the disease stage.During the acute onset stage,the treatment focuses on clearing and dis-persing dryness-heat as well as cooling blood and resolving toxicity;internal treatment involves modifications of the self-formulated Sanx-ingchan Formula(桑杏蝉方,SXCF),while external treatment employs wet compresses with the self-formulated Machixian Decoction(马齿苋汤,MCXD).In the progressive exacerbation stage,the approach shifts to draining fire,extinguishing wind,promoting sore healing,and alleviating pain;internal treatment utilizes modifications of the self-formulated Shuangjie Powder(双 解 散,SJP),and external treatment involves the topical application of the self-formulated Huanglian Ointment(黄连膏,HLO).For the chronic persis-tent stage,the strategy emphasizes nourishing spleen yin,harmonizing the nutritive aspect,and unblocking collaterals;internal treat-ment incorporates modifications of the self-formulated Runfu Decoction(润肤饮,RFD),and external treatment consists of topical appli-cation of the self-formulated Yufu Ointment(愈肤膏,YFO).
