生态学中的"物理学嫉妒":源流、批判及其超越OA
"Physics Envy"in Ecology:Genesis,Critique,and Transcendence
生态学能否成为与物理学相媲美的"硬科学",是生态学长期面临的一个深层问题.然而,在探讨这一关键问题时,相当一部分学者实质上持有"物理学嫉妒"观念,即主张在生态学中模仿牛顿式的物理学定律、数学方程和还原论.该观念本质上是机械自然观在生态学中的简单移植.本文在分析这一观念的缘由及其表现的基础上,从生态学的特性、经典物理学以及传统科学哲学的局限性三个层面揭示生态学中"物理学嫉妒"存在的问题.实际上,超越生态学中的"物理学嫉妒",并非反对在生态学研究中借鉴物理学的思想、方法或观念,而是通过拥抱生态复杂性,打破机械自然观的神话,发展适合生态学的新科学哲学,从而形成一种更具生态学自主性的发展路径.化解生态学中的"物理学嫉妒",可以为树立正确的生态自然观提供扎实的哲学基础和多维的路径选择.
Whether ecology can become a"hard science"comparable to physics is a profound issue that ecology has long faced.However,in addressing this crucial issue,a considerable number of scholars essentially hold the notion of"physics envy":advocating for the imitation of Newtonian-style physical laws,mathematical equations,and reductionism in ecology.This notion is essentially a simplistic transplantation of the mechanistic view of nature into ecology.Based on an analysis of the origins and manifestations of this notion,this paper reveals the problems associated with"physics envy"in ecology from three perspectives:the characteristics of ecology itself,the limitations of classical physics,and the constraints of traditional philosophy of science.In fact,transcending"physics envy"in ecology does not mean rejecting the adoption of ideas,methods,or concepts from physics.Rather,it entails embracing ecological complexity,breaking the myth of the mechanistic view of nature,and developing a new philosophy of science tailored to ecology,thereby forging a development path with greater ecological autonomy.Resolving"physics envy"in ecology can provide a philosophical foundation and multidimensional pathways for establishing a correct ecological view of nature.
