Coreference resolution is a process of identifying all the different expressions in a text that refer to the same entity,and it is considered as one of the most difficult tasks in natural language processing,which has a crucial impact on the effectiveness and performance of text summarization,machine reading comprehension,question and answer and machine translation.This paper introduced the basic concept of coreference resolution,discussed its research significance and application fields,highlighted the research status and progress of coreference resolution based on neural networks in recent years,and introduced coreference resolution evaluation metrics and datasets.The challenges and future development directions of coreference resolution research were analyzed.
