The fundamental pathogenesis of knee osteoarthritis is due to deficiency of Zheng Qi and invasion of external Evil Factors such as Wind,Cold,Dampness,and blood stasis.Tangible Evil Factors like Cold-Dampness,blood stasis,and Phlegm-Dampness ob-struct the meridians,preventing the smooth flow of Qi and blood,or over time,the depletion of Yin blood causes the disease.Treatment is based on the principles of warming the meridians and dispersing Cold,removing blood stasis and unblocking the meridians as well as tonifying Qi and blood.According to the depth of Evil Factor invasion in the body,treatment is differentiated:when the Evil Factor is mild and the disease is in the Wei and flesh layer,use the Toujiu method;when the disease is in the Ying and blood layer,with obstruc-ted meridians and impaired Qi and blood flow,use the Ciying Quyu method combined with Toujiu method;in chronic cases,with defi-ciencies of Liver,Spleen and Kidney,use the Wenzhen Toujiu method.
