The continuation of the classical tradition in Zhang Chu's novel Clouds Fall is mainly reflected in three aspects:narrative,imagery,and traditional spirit.In terms of narrative,it inherits the classical reticular structure and the"coiled snake"chapter pattern,the technique of"subtle hints that wind like a hidden snake for a thousand miles",and the theme of"escape and return",thereby endowing the novel's narrative with a multi-dimensional space of expression.In terms of imagery,it carries on its lyricism and constructs images to signify new meanings.At the level of traditional spirit,it promotes the core of the traditional spirit of Confucianism,Buddhism,and Daoism.However,Zhang Chu does not simply inherit the tradition,but on this basis carries out creative transformation,which is mainly manifested in the ingenious ring closure structure,the distinctive connotation of the"escape and return"narrative,the deconstruction of the fixed symbolism of classical images,and the realization of a leap in traditional spirit from the ethical level to the spiritual level.These transformations revive classical narrative,imagery,and traditional spirit,and also enrich the novel's space of meaning.
