Diagnostic radiology:The essential for effective and safe practice of interventional radiologyOA
In 1895,Dr.Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen,a German professor of physics,accidently discovered x-ray with subsequent generation of the first x-ray film of his wife''s hand in the world.1 This iconic image initiated the field of diagnostic radiology,broadly called Medical Imaging nowadays.In 1927,Dr.Egas Moniz,an Portuguese physician at the University of Lisbon,developed the first contrasted x-ray angiography as an diagnostic radiology tool for diagnosis of different illnesses,such as tumors,artery disease and arteriovenous malformations.2 These two histologic milestones of diagnostic radiology credentialed both Drs.Roentgen and Moniz in winning their Nobel Prizes later.
