Diabetic gastroparesis(DGP)is a common chronic complication of diabetes,characterized by abnormal gastric rhythmic electrical activity and decreased gastric motility.Excessive consumption of rich,greasy,and sweet foods,emotional depression or anger,and imbalance between work and rest may lead to excessive heat in the middle energizer.This"excessive fire"consumes spleen and stomach qi,impairs the spleen's function of transportation and transformation,and consequently causes disordered metabolism of qi,blood,and body fluids,disturbance of qi movement in the middle energizer,resulting in indigestion.On the basis of hyperglycemia,oxidative stress and inflammatory responses in the gastrointestinal microenvironment damage the enteric nervous system,interstitial cells,and gastrointestinal smooth muscle,resulting in abnormalities of gastric slow-wave activity and impairment of gastrointestinal electrophysiology-motility mechanisms,which in turn lead to delayed gastric emptying and gastrointestinal motility disorders.Gastrointestinal metabolic disorders are interrelated and mutually influential.Focusing on the relationship among"excessive fire consuming qi,"gastrointestinal electrophysiology-motility,and DGP,this paper explores the scientific connotation of"excessive fire consuming qi"in DGP and proposes a stage-based therapeutic approach according to the progression of the disease,with the aim of providing new insights for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of DGP.
