Household energy poverty can generate indoor air pollution and threaten residents'health,while the traditional patterns of intra-household labor division may result in gendered disparities in such harm.Using the panel data from the China Family Panel Studies(CFPS)from 2018 to 2022,this study investigates the gender disparities in the impact of rural household energy poverty on residents'health and its mechanism.The findings are as follows:First,the negative impact of rural household energy poverty on residents'health exhibits a pronounced gender disparities,that is women have more prominent health losses in the context of energy poverty.Heterogeneity analysis further indicates that this gender disparity is particularly pronounced in northern regions,highlighting distinct regional characteristics.Second,household labor time plays a critical moderating role in the relationship between rural household energy poverty and health.As the duration of domestic labor increases,the adverse effects of energy poverty on health are significantly amplified.Precisely due to this amplification effect of household labor time,women face a higher risk of health impairment.Third,differences in household division of labor stem from societal expectations regarding gender roles in society.This factor strengthens the responsibility of women in household chores.To alleviate the gender disparities in the health hazards caused by rural household energy poverty,the government should accelerate the construction of rural public infrastructure with a focus on clean energy pipeline systems.It is imperative to integrate a gender perspective into institutional design,leveraging policy instruments and social advocacy to foster a more equitable disparity of household labor.These measures are crucial for enhancing the precision of energy and livelihood policies and promoting the inclusivity of development outcomes,so as to lay a solid foundation for common prosperity and social equity.
