Polygonati Rhizoma,the dried rhizome of perennial herbaceous plants belonging to the genus Polygonatum in the family Liliaceae,is sweet in taste and neutral in nature,acting on the lung,spleen,and kidney meridians.As one of the representative traditional medicinal and edible homologous varieties,its main bioactive components include polysaccharides,saponins,and flavonoids.These components endow Polygonati Rhizoma with diverse pharmacological activities:in addition to effectively regulating glucose and lipid metabolism,it also exhibits anti-tumor,immunomodulatory,antioxidant,antidepressant,anti-aging,and anti-fatigue effects,laying a solid foundation for its in-depth development in the health field.Currently,the applications of Polygonati Rhizoma and its extracts have extended from traditional Chinese medicine to multiple fields such as Chinese patent medicines,health food products,and ordinary foodstuffs,boasting broad market prospects.This review systematically summarizes the research progress on the pharmacological effects and product development of Polygonati Rhizoma,aiming to provide theoretical references for its further in-depth development and industrial application.
