During the Soviet Areas period,the core of Deng Xiaoping's journalistic practice and concepts was to serve the revolutionary war and the construction of the Red Army.His exploration centered on editing Red Star(the official newspaper of the Military Commission),laying a crucial foundation for the early journalistic cause of the Communist Party of China and the people's army.In terms of practice,he comprehensively reformed Red Star:restoring lead typesetting,maintaining mimeograph publication during the Long March,setting up distinctive columns,and establishing a correspondent team to form a pattern of the whole Party running the newspaper.Ideologically,he affirmed the positioning of"the Party exercising leadership over newspapers",adhered to the Party's absolute leadership over journalistic work,practiced the principle of"connecting with the masses"to enhance communication effectiveness,integrated the function of"criticism and self-criticism"to promote the style construction of the Red Army,and upheld a pragmatic and efficient communication concept of"integrating with reality",emphasizing that news should serve practical struggles.The work styles formed in this practice,such as being close to the masses and the whole Party running the newspaper,which constructed the early paradigm of the Party and the army's journalistic cause.His concepts of political nature,mass character,and pragmatism not only became an important source of Deng Xiaoping's subsequent journalistic thoughts but also enriched the practical connotation of Mao Zedong's journalistic thoughts.
