This paper examines the accelerating rise of the global south,with China as a key representa-tive,and its role in reshaping the global development landscape.New quality productive forces carry im-portant strategic value for the"global south":they help break away from traditional path dependence and advance leapfrog development;resolve the long-standing"core-periphery"dependency dilemma and cultivate endogenous development drivers;promote a more balanced configuration of international forces and drive the building of a more equitable world order.New quality productive forces empower the high-quality development of the"global south"through three mechanisms:fostering new drivers of develop-ment via scientific,technological and industrial innovation;achieving new leaps in development through the optimization of production factors;and constructing new development models by means of the green transformation of the economy and society.Nevertheless,this process is faced with multiple challenges,including the prevalent late-development disadvantages among countries of the"global south",internal unbalanced development,as well as risks and challenges arising from hegemonism and geopolitical ten-sions.In response,efforts should focus on establishing new relations of production compatible with new quality productive forces,deepening south-south cooperation and north-south dialogue,and advancing the reform of the global governance system and the shaping of a secure and sound development environ-ment.
