Pottery Cat is a regional intangible cultural heritage of traditional arts and crafts.Its life cycle has undergone five stages:house-protecting talisman,crafted artwork,tourist commodity,intangible cultural heritage,and work of art/cultural and creative product.In addition to tourism development,national cultural policies,artisans' creativity,and media promotion,the transformation of its attributes is also driven by changes in its material components.The study reveals that in constructed display spaces,the shrinking,concealment,or even disappearance of the cylindrical tile base of Pottery Cat is a key factor driving its evolution toward"decorative art".It points out that the cylindrical tile base serves as the crucial material hub for Pottery Cat to perform its cultural functions of"gathering household qi"and"fostering harmonious and upright vitality".Losing the base means losing its capacity to generate cultural meaning.The inheritance and protection of arts and crafts intangible cultural heritage should not only concern the material components that produce cultural significance,but also cover the"contextual domain"that includes craftsmanship,concepts,and spaces of practice.
