Analysis on Characteristics of High-downloaded Papers in T1-level High-quality Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Journals
Objective To explore the characteristics of high-downloaded papers in high-quality(T1-level)journals in TCM field, and the academic quality, research hotspots, and development trends reflected by these papers. Methods 11 high-quality TCM scientific journals listed in the 2023 T1-level directory were obtained through the retrieval of CNKI,the top 200 most frequently downloaded papers from each journal were included.Bibliometric methods were applied, utilizing models such as Bradford's Law and Lotka's Law,along with indicators including download frequency(D),citation frequency(C),and H/G indices,to conduct quantitative analysis on the sample. Results A total of 2 200 papers were included. The structure of journals with papers was core(3 kinds)-related(4 kinds)-marginal(4 kinds). The distribution of author productivity generally conformed to Lotka's Law:among all unique authors(N=7 545),79.6%authored one paper,11.9%authored two papers,3.9%authored three papers, and only 0.5%authored≥10 papers. The log-log fitting yielded a Lotka index of n≈2.78.A comparison by author role showed that first authors had a higher proportion of one-time publications(1 paper 90.4%vs.79.6%)and a lower proportion of high-productivity authors(≥5 papers:0.2%vs.1.2%;≥10 papers:0.2%vs.0.5%),with a steeper fitting index(first authors n≈3.46,all authors n≈2.78).The literature half-life,calculated based on the chronological distribution of citations, was 5 years.Using the"proportion of papers published in the last 5 years"as a recency proxy indicator(PI)yielded 51.14%,indicating high activity in the field and a"dominant contribution from the last decade".Additionally, secondary citation peaks were observed at 25-30 years and around 38 years, reflecting the inheritance of classical research. Conclusion High-quality TCM journals exhibit a"core-peripheral"distribution pattern, and author productivity conforms to Lotka's Law.First authors show a shorter long tail and scarcer high-productivity representation.Download frequency can serve as an early indicator of dissemination breadth, but there is a time lag between"high dissemination-low transformation".The findings can provide references for disciplinary development strategies and resource allocation optimization.
