In response to the escalating global pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the shipping industry and the International Maritime Organization's strategic mandate for net-zero emissions by 2050,this study aims to overcome the limitations of current ship carbon footprint assessments—which predominantly focus on the operational phase—by constructing a comprehensive life-cycle carbon footprint inventory analysis framework for seagoing transport vessels.Based on life cycle assessment(LCA)theory,the system boundary is systematically defined from a"cradle-to-grave"perspective.A phased carbon footprint element identification method is innovatively proposed,which deconstructs the ship life cycle into five critical stages:raw material and energy acquisition,design,construction,operation,and end-of-life disposal.Furthermore,the data collection and accounting pathways for carbon emission inventories at each stage are explicitly delineated,thereby establishing a full-process inventory analysis system.The constructed analytical framework achieves a systematic integration of embodied carbon emissions and direct operational carbon emissions from ships and provides a hierarchical accounting rule that spans from macro-level process definition to micro-level element identification.Compared with conventional methods,this framework significantly enhances the completeness and precision of carbon footprint accounting,offering a standardized and reproducible methodological tool for quantifying greenhouse gas emissions across the entire ship life cycle.This framework provides a scientific decision-making basis and a highly operable assessment tool for the low-carbon transition of the shipping industry.It holds substantial theoretical guiding significance and engineering application value for supporting green ship design,formulating life-cycle carbon reduction policies,and promoting deep decarbonization in international shipping.
