After literature review,field investigation and specimen examination,this paper confirmed that the differences between Dendrocalamus suberosus and D.stenoauritus indicated in the protologue of D.suberosus are not stable,such as the shape of the apex of culm leaf sheath,the shape of culm leaf auricle,the length of culm sheath ligule,and the prominence of transverse veinlets.Thus,these two species were considered as conspecific in this study.According to International Code of Nomenclature for algae,fungi,and plants,D.suberosus is treated as a synonym of D.stenoauritus.This species is characterized by young culm glabrous or thinly white powdery,branch completement with many clustered branches and a central dominant one,fresh culm leaf sheath yellowish-brown strigose and often with light yellowish white vertical stripes abaxially,apex usually broad,nearly horizontal or concave,culm leaf blade reflexed,triangular to ovate-lanceolate,and culm leaf auricles linear-falcate.A detailed description and a colour plate of D.stenoauritus as well as morphological comparison with its similar species D.latiflorus are also provided.
