Research Review on Revealing Human Gender and Race from Iris Images
系统综述了基于虹膜图像的人口统计学分析研究进展,重点探讨了性别与种族两大属性分类问题.阐述了虹膜属性分类的基本原理与任务难点,介绍了虹膜属性分类的应用场景及与虹膜识别的两大集成模式(串行集成与并行集成).列举了虹膜属性分类常用的7种量化评价指标.针对虹膜性别分类,按照基于传统手工特征的方法与基于深度学习的方法两大类展示其发展进程;针对虹膜种族分类,按照基于统计值的方法与基于纹理基元的方法展示其发展进程.总结了 ND-GFI、CVBL_IRIS、UNAB-Gender、CASIA-BioSecure等主流虹膜属性分类数据集的特点与适用场景.分析了当前虹膜属性分类面临的挑战,包括无约束环境下的属性分类、多模态/特征融合、跨域(光谱、传感器)泛化性、数据分布与标注和模型轻量化.总结全文,为该领域技术研发与应用提供系统性参考.
This paper systematically reviews the research progress in demographic analysis based on iris images,with a focus on the classification of two key attributes:gender and race.It elaborates on the fundamental principles and task diffi-culties of iris attribute classification,followed by an introduction to its application scenarios and two integration modes with iris recognition(serial integration and parallel integration).Subsequently,seven commonly used quantitative evalua-tion metrics for iris attribute classification are listed.For iris gender classification,the developmental trajectory is presented through two major categories:traditional handcrafted feature-based methods and deep learning-based methods.For iris race classification,the progress is outlined via statistical value-based methods and texture primitive-based methods.Addi-tionally,the paper summarizes the characteristics and applicable scenarios of mainstream iris attribute classification datasets,including ND-GFI,CVBL_IRIS,UNAB-Gender,and CASIA-BioSecure.Furthermore,it analyzes current challenges in iris attribute classification,such as attribute classification in unconstrained environments,multimodal/feature fusion,cross-domain(spectral/sensor)generalization,data distribution and annotation,and model lightweighting.Finally,the paper concludes with a comprehensive summary,providing systematic references for technological development and applica-tions in this field.
