Anemia is a common complication of chronic kidney disease(CKD),primarily caused by impaired kidney function leading to insufficient erythropoietin(EPO)production and subsequent bone marrow erythropoietic dysfunction.This pathogenesis is highly consistent with the theory of"Shen essence-marrow-blood"in Chinese medicine(CM),which posits that deficiency of Shen essence impairs marrow generation and thereby disrupts blood production.In CM framework,the Shen is regarded as the root of yin and yang for all five zang organs.Consequently,Shen deficiency can lead to multi-organ dysfunction,which further compromises hematopoiesis.Conversely,inadequate blood supply fails to nourish the organs,creating a vicious cycle.Grounded in the context of CKD-related anemia,this paper explores the intersection of classical CM theory and modern medical evidence.It aims to explore the scientific connotation of the"Shen essence-marrow-blood"theory,thereby providing a theoretical foundation for developing integrative strategies to improve the management of CKD-related anemia.
