[Objective]To summarize the National Traditional Chinese Medicine Master YAN Dexin's academic ideas and clinical experience in applying Qi and blood theory to treat functional constipation.[Methods]From the perspectives of etiology and pathogenesis,treatment principles and methods,medication characteristics,this article systematically summarizes Professor YAN's academic views on the diagnosis and treatment of functional constipation,and supply with medical records.[Results]Professor YAN proposed that"imbalance of Qi and blood"was the core pathogenesis of functional constipation,and the treatment should take"regulating Qi and blood"as the general principle,combined with differentiation of deficiency and excess of viscera,and based on the classification of Qi(Qi stagnation,Qi deficiency,Yang deficiency)and blood(blood stasis,blood deficiency,Yin blood deficiency).Medication should focus on combination of ascending and descending factors(such as the combination of Vitex trifolia and Semen Lepidii),combination of movement and stillness(such as the combination of Atractylodes macrocephala and Fructus Aurantii),the simultaneous treatment of Qi and blood(such as the combination of Semen Armeniacae Amarum and Persicae Semen),and the complementary effects(such as the combination of Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata and Rhei Radix et Rhizoma).One case involved constipation due to Qi stagnation caused by liver-spleen disharmony,treated with Sini Powder with modifications to regulate Qi flow;the other case involved constipation caused by Yin deficiency and Qi weakness,with pneumonia due to novel coronavirus.Initially,nourishing Yin and increasing body fluid were administered,followed by the use of aconite to promote Qi circulation,the patient's bowel movements became unobstructed.[Conclusion]Professor YAN Dexin took Qi and blood theory as the core in treating functional constipation,harmonized the viscera,demonstrated precise differentiation and delicate medication,fully reflecting the unique advantages and academic inheritance value of traditional Chinese medicine in treating chronic diseases.
