During the reign of Emperor Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty,the Jiaoshan Tripod,identified as a tripod of the Zhou Dynasty,gained widespread recognition due to the appreciation and inscriptions by the brothers Wang Shilu and Wang Shizhen during their visit to Jiaoshan.The Tripod had been enshrined in the Jiaoshan Dinghui Temple in Zhenjiang before the 4th year(1525)of Emperor Jiajing's reign in the Ming Dynasty,but was destroyed in 1937 by Japanese invading forces during the War of Japanese Aggression against China.Its transmission history and authenticity disputes bear no connection to Yan Song of the Ming Dynasty.On the Inscriptions of the Jiaoshan Tripod was compiled and published by Weng Fanggang in the 38th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign(1773),collecting research findings from 13 scholars,including himself.It is a significant anthology in the history of the study on the Jiaoshan Tripod.Weng Fanggang's assessment of the Jiaoshan Tripod's authenticity underwent a notable shift in his later years.In On the Seal Script Inscriptions of the Jiaoshan Tripod,written in the 22nd year of Emperor Jiaqing's reign(1817),he argued that the Jiaoshan Tripod at the time was not the original tripod,but a replica cast by enthusiasts according to the inscriptions of the Zhou Dynasty Tripod,and he revised his earlier textual research accordingly.Additionally,Inscription Album of the Jiaoshan Tripod by Lin Jiren,jointly compiled by Weng Fanggang and his disciples over three generations,stands as another remarkable chapter in the study of the Jiaoshan Tripod.
