The concept of"red gene"is a term created by Chinese scholars based on the concept of"gene",carrying a dual metaphorical meaning.Its main connotation refers to the ideals,values,moral sentiments,principles and discipline,work style,and character ideals that are rock-solid and passed down through generations,formed during the process of the Chinese Communist Party leading the Chinese people in the New Democratic Revolution,the socialist revolution and construction,the reform and opening-up,as well as the construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.The inheritance of red genes by universities is determined by the nature,purpose,the complex environment they face,and the cultural mission of new-era socialist universities.The inheritance of cultural genes in universities should adhere to Xi Jinping Thought on Culture as guidance,focus on the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education,integrate with various aspects of university work,use multiple forms to tell red stories well,and strengthen the organizational leadership and support system for the inheritance of red genes.
