The impact of neighborhood walkability on the travel activities of the elderly:An empirical study based on Random Forest-SHAP across multiple neighborhoods

在快速老龄化背景下,社区街道环境对老年人出行行为的影响日益受到关注.以大连中心城区典型社区为实证对象,构建涵盖出行频率与出行类型的多维响应指标体系,运用可解释机器学习框架(随机森林融合SHAP 模型)揭示社区街道可步行性因素对老年人出行活动非线性影响特征.结果表明:街道整合度、连接度和绿视率等对老年人日常出行频率具有显著提升作用,且呈现明显阈值效应;在活动类型方面,老年人必要性活动主要受路网密度、交叉口数量等形态因子的支撑,社交性与健康维护性活动更依赖设施丰富度与空间贴合性,而优化绿视率和路侧泊位比对老年人休闲性活动具有显著促进作用.

Against the backdrop of rapid population aging,the influence of community street environments on older adults'travel behaviors has attracted increasing attention.Taking typical communities in the central urban area of Dalian as case studies,this research constructs a multi-dimensional response index system covering travel frequency and travel types.An interpretable machine learning framework(random forest integrated with SHAP)is employed to reveal the non-linear impacts of community street walkability factors on older adults'travel activities.The results indicate that street integration,connectivity,and the green view index significantly increase the daily travel frequency of older adults,with clear threshold effects.Regarding activity types,necessary activities are primarily supported by morphological factors such as road density and the number of intersections whereas social and health maintenance activities rely more on facility abundance and spatial fit.In addition,optimizing the green view index and the ratio of on-street parking spaces significantly promotes leisure activities among older adults.
