Zhaozhou City is a major transport hub in ancient northwestern Dian(Yunnan)region,retaining vernacular settlements and tra-ditional architecture that intensively reflect the cultural interactions among diverse groups and the logic of local city construction,making it highly significant for socio-spatial correlation re-search.By analysing historical maps and textual records alongside field surveys and interviews,this article reconstructs the spatial patterns of the vernacular settlements and architecture in Zhaozhou City.It systematically analyses the mechanisms shaping the city's space-making from three perspectives:social memory,belief systems,and daily livelihoods.Introducing such perspectives not only expands the analytical ap-proaches to historic cities,but also provides a practical framework for identifying,conserving,and transmitting historical memory within ver-nacular settlements and architectural spaces.
